Family Reserve Special Cuvées

In special years, we make special wines

The Domaine de Mourchon Family Reserve is only made in the years that we judge to have produced an exceptional harvest. Made from hand selected grapes from our oldest vines, whose naturally restricted yield produces juice of incredible concentration and character, these wines really are closely handled and monitored from vineyard to the bottle.

We only make a limited number of bottles. If we made more, we would start to steal from the grapes destined for our Grande Réserve. We would never reduce the quality of one wine to benefit another!

Sebastian, our winemaker, watches over the grenache, as it ferments in large, open, oak vats (600 litre 'demi muids') before ageing it for a further 10 months in smaller oak barrels. The syrah, which is more sensitive during fermentation, is fermented in a small stainless steel tank, before it, too, is aged in barriques for around 10 months.

This truly is a labour of love.

Every Family Reserve is a single variety wine, celebrating the best of our grenache and syrah vines. Each is unfiltered and, because of the concentration of the grape juice that produced it, each is a powerful and complex wine.

Our first Family Reserve, a grenache, marked our 10th anniversary in 2006. In 2007, we produced 2 Family Resrves - a grenache and a syrah. We would love to do so every year, but we are committed to doing so only when the growing season and harvest allow.

Because of the limited nature of the Family Reserve, it is not available for wide-spread distribution and is usually only obtainable direct from the vineyard, itself, making it even more worthwhile to visit us!
